FiveCo's Stories - Mémoire du Vin

When electronics hide inside 5 cm of solid oak, technology becomes art — that's the story of Mémoire du Vin

Among the many stories we could tell about FiveCo, one holds a particularly special place for me: the birth of Mémoire du Vin

— a wine cellar management system we developed, and the perfect kind of project I love.

On one side, the technology: a simple, intuitive system to manage your cellar. On the other, a beautifully designed object, created once again by Philippe Vallat, that fits seamlessly into any cellar — whether ultra-contemporary or centuries-old vaulted stone.

It was a true joy to work with our cabinetmaker, Mr. Müller, who delivered a remarkable piece of work: the perfect illusion of a solid oak monolith, into which we delicately integrated a touchscreen and all the intelligence needed to read the rings — those iconic rings at the heart of the Mémoire du Vin system, carrying every piece of information about a bottle, fully managed by the database.

The key challenge — one we thought long and hard about — was how to hide the reader, so that no electronics would be visible in the calm, serene atmosphere of a wine cellar. The solution: integrating the reader inside the monolith itself. To read a ring, you simply place it against the right-hand panel, and it reads through 5 cm of solid oak.

An incredible adventure — technological, aesthetic, and above all, crafted alongside truly exceptional artisans.
